Prof. David Zynda, a parishioner at St. Michaels & All Angels in Tucson, reflects on the surprising power of an Invite Welcome Connect workshop with Founder Mary Foster Parmer

Hello, I'm David. I'm a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Tucson, Arizona, and I recently participated in the Invite, Welcome, Connect training.

Having served on several non-profit boards and associated activities along those lines, I've been through my fair share of board trainings and development, and honestly, coming into this, I just thought it would be another Saturday sitting in boring meetings, listening to things that I already knew.

But much to my surprise, this whole thing exceeded my expectations. I learned so much. I found the presentations engaging, the stories moving, and felt very compelled and laden with all sorts of different ideas as to how we can improve our outreach as a parish and reach out to the community to carry out the work, the message of Christ crucified and proclaim that message.I'm grateful for what we learned, for the ideas we're able to generate, and this is something that I think many other parishes can benefit from.

This goes beyond the normal scheme of things that you're used to and forces you to think very creatively of what your strengths are and how you can best reach others.
