A Meaningful Lenten Practice for Church Groups: The Invite Welcome Connect Study Guide

Lent invites us to slow down, reflect, and ask deeper questions about who we are and who God is calling us to be. For congregations looking for a thoughtful, practical group activity during this season, the Invite Welcome Connect Group Study Guide offers a rich and engaging option for small groups, ministry teams, and whole congregations.

You can find the Study Guide on our website anytime under the Free Resources menu or by visiting this page.

A Six-Session Journey of Reflection and Practice

The Invite Welcome Connect Group Study Guide is designed to be used alongside the Invite Welcome Connect book and works especially well as a Lenten series. Each of the six sessions invites participants to reflect on how their church embodies invitation, welcome, and connection, and how those practices shape our common life and witness.

Every section of the study guide is accompanied by a short video, allowing groups to engage in whatever format works best for them. Study groups can choose to use the printable PDF guide, the videos, or a combination of both. All materials are available together on the same webpage for easy access.

What Your Group Will Explore

Through this study, participants will engage with:

  • The spiritual and theological foundations of invitation and hospitality

  • Practical strategies for cultivating a genuinely welcoming church culture

  • The role of relational evangelism in today’s world

  • Ways to empower and equip lay leaders for this ministry

  • Reflection questions and real-world applications that support congregational growth

This makes the study especially well-suited for Lent, a season when churches are already primed for honest reflection, shared learning, and renewed commitment.

An Invitation for the Season Ahead

Whether your congregation is encountering the Invite Welcome Connect framework for the first time or revisiting it with fresh eyes, this study offers a faithful and accessible way to deepen your church’s practice of invitation, welcome, and connection during Lent.

We encourage you to share this resource with clergy, lay leaders, and small group facilitators who are planning Lenten offerings now. And as always, we’d love to hear how your group is using the study guide and what insights emerge along the way.
